Blushing by Fred L. Taulbee Jr.

Blushing
By Fred L. Taulbee Jr.

You blushing,
like a star going nova,
like a pufferfish blowing up,
like a red helium balloon,
like Santa Claus just come in from the snow,
like Shoney’s Big Boy,
like a Raggedy Ann doll,
like a little girl trying on makeup for the first time.
Yeah, you blush a lot,
and I can hear it sometimes,
through the phone,
radiating like nuclear fusion,
and I’m a fish on Bikini Island during the first nuclear testing
right afterwards wondering
what the hell was that?
